For this fall season, the Hammond Chamber of Commerce presents a kick off with Battle of the Bands! September is right around the corner and Music in the Park will be here before you know it and with it comes our concert series starting on Sunday, September 27th from 3-6pm at beautiful Cate Square Park in historic downtown Hammond. Our concert series will feature local bands with different genres of music.
The first concert will feature the “Battle of the Bands” with 3 bands competing for the title of “Best Band in Hammond.” The competitors are local musicians and serve many different types of music. Space Trumpet is a 7 piece horn band featuring “celtic rock”. That should be a crowd pleaser! Gamma Ringo has a 60’s influence on pop rock and promises to speak to a different crowd. John Wayne creates a folk rock sound like no other. Take this opportunity to come out and listen to 3 very diverse bands and enjoy a fun, family atmosphere. Plus, you get to scream and clap for your favorite band and get rid of all that work stress. You can bet the bands will be working the crowd and bringing fans to “Rock the Vote.” The winner will play at Music in the Park on Sunday, October 25th and receive publicity for winning. We look forward to this being a serious “Battle” and hope the public will come out to this free event and support our local musicians.
This year we also want to feature different types of music and bring something for everyone. There are so many talented musicians in the Hammond area and we would like to showcase their talent. If you are a band and are interested in playing at Music in the Park, please contact us here at the chamber. We are always open to listening to a CD and seeing where your music could fit in with our series. We are currently in talks with Rockin’ Doopsie to bring him back for a repeat performance for our May finale. Everyone had such a great time with Doopsie and even a little rain couldn’t dampen the enthusiasm he brings.
We are actively seeking sponsors for this community concert series beginning September to November and then resuming in March through May of 2010. We ask that if you have an interest in sponsoring the event to please call the Hammond Chamber of Commerce to receive a Sponsorship packet. This packet lists all the benefits of sponsoring this type of community event. We have several different sponsorship levels and opportunities which can give anyone the opportunity to sponsor this event. We are hoping the Lemonade Brigade will join us again this year also. These little guys were out selling their lemonade for Cystic Fibrosis and really made the finale a hit. They earned a good bit of money for their charity as well.
Please keep in mind that the Hammond Chamber Community & Business Expo will be held on September 17th at the Southeastern Louisiana University Center. We have very few booths left so if your business has an interest in the EXPO, please contact the chamber for a registration form. We plan to have some great activities to make this the best EXPO ever. You may call the chamber at 985-345-4457 or email us at chamber@hammondchamber.org for more information.
As always, if you are interested in joining the Hammond Chamber of Commerce, please contact us! We are a vital and growing chamber and we would love to help you help your business. Remember, we are the voice of commerce!
