Pack your bags, grab a sweater and head to the beach. Whether you enjoy food and wine, nature, performing arts, or shopping, there is a ton to do and see this season at the shore.  “The fall is our best kept secret,” said Tracy Louthain, Director of Public Relations and Visitor Services at the Beaches of South Walton.

Located in northwest Florida on the Emerald Coast, the area has 15 diverse beachfront communities stretching 26 miles from Inlet Beach to Seaside.   In the fall, the average temperature is 80 degrees.  “The water is still warm enough for swimming, yet daytime temperatures are pleasant. More importantly, it is a quieter season. The kids are back in school--so it becomes romantic with lots of couples coming for long weekends. The fall also brings spectacular sunsets, as well as the migration of the Monarch butterfly fluttering along the coast.”

Kimberly Chapman, public relations manager for the Alabama Gulf Coast Convention and Visitor Bureau, agrees that the fall is a great time to visit. “It’s our shoulder season, so we are a little less crowded and the rates have shifted away from the peak season pricing. The weather is wonderful.  The lack of humidity makes outdoor activities, such as, boating, fishing, golf and birding especially inviting.”

Northshore residents can drive to the Beaches of South Walton or Gulf Shores in less than five hours.  Here is a sampling of the events planned for this fall.  For more information, visit www.beachesofsouthwalton.com or www.gulfshores.com
