I don’t like to miss a thing.  If there is something eventful happening on the northshore chances are you’re going to see me.  Festivals, special events, fundraisers, farmer’s market – you name it, I’m there! There’s only one thing I love as much as being out and about all over this northshore, and that is letting everyone know about the fabulous things we have happening here.  I’ve made it a full time job keeping myself informed of what’s going on around me in my community and now I’ll be sharing it with you.

My life here on the northshore is filled with everything from fun and frivolity to business deals and board meetings.  I live a bustling and busy life as a wife and mother of three children, the Mayor Pro Tem for the Town of Abita Springs, business owner of Bot & Nola’s Snoballs, part-time radio personality, and writer.   I relish in the satisfaction of a hard days work, but believe it is important to achieve a good balance between business and pleasure.  The northshore has so much to offer!  I make time for it all.  I have completely immersed myself here on the northshore, and I consider myself a very lucky girl to be able to live, work and play here.

So, if it is hot and happening on the northshore – I’ll let you know about it right here in “On The Seen”.  However, I will be on your computer screen blogging at www.northshoreconifer.com, and soon you can find me on Conifer TV, where my camera and I will be bringing you face to face with the real northshore. Covering everything and anything from east to west, I’ll be keeping you informed of the latest developments and topics of interest and speaking with community leaders about the decisions that affect our lives here. And I’ll also be talking with you.  I look forward to doing impromptu reporting while jetting around and highlighting all the incredible people that make the northshore such a fantastic place to live.

So, what’s up first on my to-do list for September?   On September 19, the St. Tammany Art Association in conjunction with the New Orleans Museum of Art will be having a gala event called “HeART and Soul”.  It will be at the Art House on North Columbia Street in Downtown Covington from 7:00-10:00.  I absolutely love to attend events at this venue.  The Art House is such a lovely space, and the location is ideal for browsing the nearby galleries beforehand, or enjoying a cocktail downtown afterward.  HeART and Soul sounds like it will be an amazing evening.  A refined mood will be set with the music of a jazz duo and all the art will be “heart” themed.   I understand there will be a flowing raspberry martini fountain, which sounds engaging and the menu looks inviting as well.  The collaboration of these two organizations is inspiring, and they promise this is just the first in a series of joint efforts.  I suggest purchasing your tickets in advance although they will be available at the door.  More details are available at www.sttammanyartassociation.org.

On September 26 and 27, the northshore will be host to the Louisiana Gator Fest at Koop Drive, off Hwy 59.  The Tammany Trace and Truth180 have joined to host a family event you’ll want to bring the whole gang to.  On Saturday in addition to great music all afternoon and evening, there will be a beauty pageant and an array of kids’ activities.  I am heading there on Sunday to check out the Gator Cook-Off Competition.  It starts at 1:00 and the winners will be announced at 4:00.  In the meantime, I’ll be listening to one of my favorite local bands, Christian Serpas and Ghost Town; they take the stage at 2:00.  The music line-up is great all day – Jenny Brooks, Rockin’ Dopsie and more.  Daily admission is $3.00 and kids 12 and under are free.  The festivities are from 10:00-10:00 on Saturday and Noon – 9:00 Sunday.

Lastly, this event has been long awaited as it unfortunately was rained out on its originally scheduled date.  The Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra is performing on the northshore!  “Sunset Symphony on the Lake” is being made possible by the The northshore Community Foundation.  This is a free performance and everyone is invited! What a wonderful opportunity to hear the incredible instrumentation of the LPO in our own backyard, our majestic lakefront.   The performance starts at 5:00 and is set for Saturday Sept 26.  The equally important “rain date” is Sunday, September 27.  Food drinks and certainly chairs are encouraged.  However, some tables will be available to “Listen in Luxury”. You can get the details at www.northshorefoundation.org

I hope to see you while I’m out there working and playing hard here on the northshore! If you would like to know what to do and where to be seen on the northshore, follow me on Twitter at www.twitter.com/OnTheSeen where I’ll be tweeting regularly.  Additionally, if you have an event you would like considered for my monthly column “On The Seen”, email me the scoop at scampbell@northshoreconifer.com.
