Barack Obama is constantly overloading our airwaves, the Internet, print and every form of broadcast media. By a large margin, Obama is the most overexposed President in our nation’s history, making it almost impossible to hide from the image and voice of our new Commander-in-Chief.
He has been featured on the cover of magazines such as Time and Newsweek dozens of times. At this point in his term, he has conducted more television interviews and news conferences than any other President. A study by Towson University professor Martha Joynt Kumar showed that Obama had done 114 media interviews during his first seven months in office, about three times more than George W. Bush and Bill Clinton at the same point in their tenures.
Recently, in the span of just over a week, the President was interviewed on 60 Minutes, five Sunday news programs, and the Late Night Show with David Letterman. It seems that the President has a media appearance each day. The format is usually the same. The President is given a bunch of softball questions by fawning hosts who gush at every comment he makes. Not surprisingly, he refused to appear on Fox News, the only channel where he might have encountered tough questions.
His overwhelming presence is coupled with an ambitious liberal agenda that has divided the nation and led to a major drop in his approval ratings. Every day his administration is pushing a new scheme to expand government or increase control over the lives of Americans.
Why is the President bombarding the airwaves? For one, he loves being on television and taking advantage of media opportunities, but the real urgency at this point is his healthcare plan. He is trying to pitch a “reform” plan that is facing severe opposition in Congress and across the country. According to the latest Rasmussen poll, 53% of Americans do not favor the Democratic plan.
It seems that the President believes that the more he appears on television and says the same thing, the more support he will generate for his healthcare plan. Unfortunately for Obama, just the opposite is occurring. It is becoming more unpopular as people learn about the disturbing details. In fact, support is dwindling and he is getting more and more desperate. People are not swayed by Obama because he is not that persuasive and is basically repeating the same talking points in each interview.
Despite lackluster results, the President is forging ahead with his communication offensive. Not content with being the focus of every news network and media outlet, the President expanded his reach into our nation’s classrooms. In September, he gave a nationally televised speech directed to school children about the values of studying hard and doing homework. While the message was innocuous, initial plans called for students to follow the speech by writing letters about "what they could do to help the president." Although the letter writing campaign was modified after parental outrage, it is no surprise that many parents were upset.
Parents have a right to be concerned according to cult researcher David Conn, who believes that Obama shares many of the characteristics exhibited by the notorious cult leader Reverend Jim Jones. As an investigative reporter, Conn attempted to warn people about Jones prior to the Jonestown massacre. Today, he is trying to warn the American people that Obama’s egotism, political manipulation, radical associations and legions of naïve supporters are indicative of a cultist mentality.
It certainly seems that Hollywood has fallen under the spell of Barack Obama. An Internet video featuring idiotic stars like Nicole Richie and Demi Moore shows celebrities pledging to be “a servant of our President.” While this could be dismissed as nonsense from foolish media personalities, it is also alarming that these morons impact our culture and the media that surrounds our children.
Young children are impressionable and can be influenced easily. Throughout history, dictators have increased their grip on power by appealing directly to their country’s children. In our country, it is essential that our children remain free from political influence and are allowed to learn their lessons without propaganda or political correctness.
If Barack Obama really wanted to improve the educational system, he would dismantle the Department of Education, lessen the power of the teacher unions and give more control to local school boards.
In contrast, his agenda involves increasing federal control over education and every other aspect of our lives. While his message to students was not controversial, the parental opposition indicates that many people are frightened about the direction the President is taking this nation. It is a hopeful sign that the cult of personality Obama style may have thankfully reached its limit.
