We all know, and some of us are, the guy who buys the most horsepower (or perhaps a little more) than the boat is rated. Peak power and speed at any cost.
Often you will often find that slightly less than rated horsepower will give you 90% of the peak speed but a 20 -30% improvement on mileage. If you can run that engine at less than full throttle you gain even more. It’s the turtle and hare comparison.
I believe we often run our lives that way: A 110% effort at providing financially the most possible to ourselves and to our loved ones. But at what mileage cost to everyone involved?
You see where this pitch is going don’t you? You will benefit more by moderating your professional pursuits and prioritizing a little personal time. Doing something like… Fishing.
Very few experiences offer so much; fishing can be competitive, relaxing, solitary, or a party. You can share it with friends, family, associates, and children. Sometimes everyone on the boat shares the same experience, but more often a day of fishing means something different to each individual.
Getting bills paid so you can have enough money to create more bills will not be a good memory your friends or your family will share through life. But spend one day fishing and good or bad, you will hear that story on a regular occasion.
Hundreds of guests fish with me each year - Men, women, children, friends, professionals and families. I hear a lot of stories, both good and bad. When the talk is of business, the tone is often a bit anxious. But bring up a fishing story and everyone can relate and offer their experiences in return.
Let me suggest that right now, you grab your calendar and block out a few days this year. I can even give you some of my favorite (barring some tropical activity):
May 15 & 16 - Sat/Sun, 29 - 31 - Sat/Sun/ Memorial Day Monday
Live bait will be available, good tides, usually decent weather
June 12 & 13 – 26 & 27 Sat / Sun
Live bait will be available, good tides, usually decent weather
July 10 & 11 – 17 & 18 - 24 & 25 Sat/Sun
Live bait will be available, good tides, usually decent weather
August 14 & 15 – 21 & 22 Sat/Sun
Live bait will be available, good tides, fish early to avoid heat and squalls
September 4 -6 Labor Day Weekend
This may be one of the best fishing weekends of the year. Tides, moons, conditions look good, the rest will depend on Mother Nature.
October
Every weekend in October looks good, with the first and last looking best.
November
Along with June, this is my favorite fishing month. The 3rd weekend (11/20) in November is the WDYL (Who Do You love Inshore Invitational) a great event for families, kids and more. With Fishing and Hunting categories.
December
By December of 2010 you will be deep into the holiday chaos and will have either made time or not. We’ll talk then.
Most of the weekends in 2010 look good for fishing, but really, do you need perfect fishing conditions to go fishing? The answer is no, but, you need to prioritize the fishing trip: reduce the horsepower, back off the gas, and get better mileage (and quality) out of life.
Once you have a few dates marked in your calendar, I invite you to get even more fishing information on the BIGFISH web site: www.theBIGFISH.net. You’ll find fishing reports, photos, videos, maps, and more. If you want to increase the chances of making those planned trips great ones, call me; I would love to take you fishing 504-BIG-FISH (244-3474). You can also add me and the BIGFISH TV show as a friend on Facebook.
May 2010 bring fair weather, dry rides, and limits of fish for you and your family.
