With summertime quickly approaching, many parents might be interested in enrolling their children in one of the area’s summer theatre programs. There are several to choose from that are available on the northshore.

The North Star's Summer Program will be held at the theatre at 345 Gerard Street in Old Mandeville. This year's camp is for students 7-17 and will be led by Lori Bennett and Shannon Collins.   The tuition is $450 and the camp will run from June 1 thru June 21. For information call (985) 624-5266.

CAST Talent and Theater Drama Camps and director Jennifer H. Patterson are pleased to announce their summer schedule starts off with Emperor's Nightingale (8-15 yrs)- June 1-12 12:30-5:30pm and "A Year with Frog and Toad" from July 27-Aug 6.

Then they will have “CAST's Lagniappe Summer Stock Stage. This is a Broadway "boot camp" for serious actors, ages 12-18 years old who want to get the experience of training like a professional.

Then from May 15-17 at the Greater Covington Center. Children from St Tammany in Grades K-6th come together to perform the beloved Disney classic "Sleeping Beauty" from May 15-17. There will be auditions for the musical "Summer Stock Stage" for all actors and actresses ages 12-18.

Their 1st annual production will be Andrew Lloyd Webber's “CATS”.   Actors and actresses must have at least performed in 3 shows, and must be 12 by show time, June 22.

The fee is $300/$235 per camper with sibling discounts offered.  Campers learn everything from auditions, set design, overcoming stage fright, project, and developing body control. At Playmaker’s Theatre in Covington Frank Levy is offering several theatre camps.

In June there is a three-week camp from June 1 - June 21 for actors and actresses ages 5-16 who will present “The Wind in the Willows”.  The fee is $300. Times are from 10 am to 2:30 pm on weekdays; with televised performances the last weekend on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

In July there is a one week camp from July 13-19 for ages 5-16 at the Greater Covington Center.  Actors and actresses will present “Little Mermaid”.

Shows will be from 10 am to 2:30 pm on weekdays; with two televised performances that weekend on Friday evening and Sunday afternoon. The fee is $150.

In August there will be a two week camp for actors and actresses ages 5-16 at Playmaker’s Theatre from July 27th -August 9th. They will present “Beauty and the Beast”. It will be held the last 2 weeks before school starts from 10 am to 2:30 pm on weekdays; with televised performances the last weekend on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The fee is $250. Luke’s Brisket and Broadway will be offering theatre camps from June 15th to June 26th; July 6th to July 31st. Their central theme is “Imagine a place where...children come to believe in themselves in a way that they never thought possible”. The tuition is $150 per week which includes lunch, snack, activities, and supplies. There is a one-time $50 registration fee. The ages are children who completed first grade to students in eighth grade. Each two week camp will culminate with a show.   In June they will be presenting “The Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe.” The shows being presented in July will be announced shortly. Luke's instructors will include several of St. Tammany Parish's Talented Theatre teachers and a theatre teacher from Atlanta, Georgia.  For more information please call 985-781-6565.

The Slidell Little Theatre- Young Actors Theatre is pleased to offer once again an opportunity for our younger students to get involved in theatre activities for the summer of 2009. The MINI- YATS program will be offered at the Slidell Little Theatre for three weeks (June 1-5; June 8-12; June15-19). Children age 4 – 8 years will be eligible to participate in this program that meets from 9 am to 2 pm.  Performances are scheduled for noon on Saturday, June 6 (Week 1), Saturday, June 13 (Week 2), and Saturday, June 20 (Week 3). This daytime program will be presented in addition to our yearly summer program which meets in the evening. The cost is: $125 for Children of SLT members;  $150 for non-members. The fee includes T- shirt, cast photo, and the July 7 cast party.

Slidell Little Theatre is again offering our Summer YAT Workshop. It begins on  Sunday, May 31 with a mandatory Orientation/ Workshop for parents and YATS followed by 3 hours of workshops for YATS.  The summer workshop will end with performances July 9-12 for juniors and July 16-19 for young seniors and seniors.

The Junior YATS (age 9-entering 7th) will rehearse M-W-F or T-Th-Su.  The Senior YATS will rehearse on M-W-F and the Young Seniors on T-Th-Su.  No more than 25 students per junior show and 35 students each for the Young Senior and Senior shows will be accepted. Veleka Gray and the Actors Alliance will be offering classes for teens sixteen and up to enroll in an on-camera class for young actors interested in learning how to work in film.
