St. Tammany Parish residents are encouraged to attend a presentation at the Parish Council Chambers on Monday, November 9, 2009 beginning at 5:00 p.m., entitled ‘The Financial State of St. Tammany Parish’. Panelists are St. Tammany Parish President Kevin Davis, Sheriff Jack Strain, Assessor Patricia Schwarz Core, St. Tammany Parish School Superintendent Gayle Sloan, and the Chiefs of Fire Protection Districts One and Four Larry Hess and Merrick Tassin.
Sheriff Strain will kick off the evening with an overview of the status of tax collections for the year. Each panelist will then have an opportunity to provide the public with a brief summary of their finances. Audience members are encouraged to bring written questions with them or submit written questions during the presentations. There will be a Question & Answer Session at the conclusion of the formal presentations.
League of Women Voters President Sandra Slifer said, “We had such rave reviews when we did this program a few years ago that we wanted to bring back it. The panelists represent agencies that receive the majority of our locally-generated tax revenues and it helps put things in their proper perspective. There’s been a lot of back and forth among the various agencies. The last time we did this sales tax revenues were increasing. We’re in a different economic reality this time especially for those agencies that rely on sales taxes or development dollars.”
The presentation is sponsored by the League of Women Voters of St. Tammany. It is scheduled for Monday, November 9 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the St. Tammany Parish Council Chambers at 21490 Koop Drive just north of the I-12/Abita Springs exit. It is free and open to the public. For information call Sandra Slifer at 875-9388 or visit the League’s website at www.lwvst.info.
NOTE: This presentation will be taped by Access St. Tammany and shown on Charter Communications Channel Ten and on the parish web site at www.stpgov.org.
