The Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra will celebrate the holiday season with a presentation of Handel’s Messiah at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, December 18 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Hammond (600 N Oak St.).

This premiere performance of Messiah in Hammond will be led by Resident Conductor Rebecca Miller and will feature the Symphony Chorus of New Orleans and New Orleans’ own opera star Sarah Jane McMahon.

Messiah is George Frideric Handel’s most famous creation and is among the most popular works in Western choral literature. Composed in 1741 and premiered in 1742, it is a work based on Jesus’ life and his significance to Christian doctrine.
