An evening of rooftop dancing with the Bucktown Allstars
Slidell Memorial Hospital Foundation and St. Tammany Homestead are pleased to host Rooftop Rendezvous 2010 on Friday, May 21 from 8 to 11 p.m. on rooftop of the SMH parking garage.
The rooftop party under the stars will feature music by the Bucktown Allstars, a nine-piece Rhythm & Blues band. Featuring a powerful four-piece horn section, the group specializes in the melodic orchestration of 1960s Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, and Sam & Dave; the brassy punch of 1970s classic acts like Chicago and Stevie Wonder; and the slick grooves of 1970s funk characterized by Earth Wind & Fire and the Average White Band. The All-Stars also acknowledge their hometown roots and the influence of New Orleans R&B artists such as The Meters, The Neville Brothers and Dr. John. Add to this mix the group’s youthful energy and the result is an exciting live performance that attracts music lovers of all types and ages.
Rooftop Rendezvous has become Slidell’s most-anticipated fundraising event, as its unique and surprising elements are always fun. This year, Mayor-elect Freddy Drennan will roast a whole suckling pig on the roofof the SMH parking garage, making this a genuine Louisiana experience. Tickets are available online at
www.smhfdn.org or by calling (985)649-8820.
Approximately 300 guests attended last year’s Rooftop Rendezvous, sampling food from some of the area’s best restaurants. This year’s menu includes: Pulled Pork Sliders, Baked Beans and Coleslaw from the Blue Bayou Bar & Grill at the Silver Slipper Casino; Chateau Bleu Caterers, Turnip Green Soup; Copelands, Shrimp and Tasso Pasta and White Chocolate Bread Pudding; La Rosetta, Turtle Soup and Pasta Carponta; Sunrise on Second, Cochon de Lait stuffed with Jambalaya; Sweet Peppers Deli, Crawfish Bisque and Cookies; Terry’s Creative Catering, Pasta with chicken in a tomato basil cream sauce and stuffed artichoke leaves; and Young’s Restaurant, Grilled Quail and Beef Kabobs.
Bartenders in lab coats will concoct lifesaving libations for guests, such as our own Black or White “Torched Pigs” featuring Torched Cherry Bacardi rum with Sprite or Coke. The “Flying Pig” will appeal to martini lovers and a special Mojito Bar will offer the traditional mint concoction and a second, Dragon Berry Mojito.
Champagne Beverage will provide a wide selection of beers, including a variety of Budweiser, Michelob products and Stella Artois, as well as the popular Lazy Magnolia Beers. A selection of wines will also be served as part of a full open bar.
