A brand new, 16 unit tee hangar is the latest addition to the complexes housed at the Slidell Municipal Airport.  The new facility, built by Covington-based Crowne Air, Inc., brings a total of 18,550 square feet of space to the airport.

The state-of-the-art hangar is located directly north of the existing tee hangar complex. It meets the newest construction standards to withstand hurricane force winds and offers a floor elevation above the 100 year flood level.

Crowne Air President Warren Bourg was celebrating his company’s newest venture at the ribbon cutting, which was held on April 20. “It’s a good day for Crowne Air and the Slidell Airport,” said Bourg.  “I’m eager to show the space to future tenants.”

The complex is the latest addition to the airport expansion and improvement projects, including the recent runway extension to more than 5,000 feet, repaving of four ramp areas on the airport grounds and the terminal parking lot. In recent years, the airport has received over $11 million in federal funds to upgrade its facilities and improve operations.

“This new hangar marks another milestone in the airport’s history,” said Slidell Mayor Ben O. Morris.  “The airport is a vital transportation hub for medical emergency evacuations and disaster relief and recovery operations.  It also provides employment opportunities and economic development for the area, with public-private partnerships such as this hangar project.”

“Slidell Municipal Airport now serves as home to 108 based aircraft and 34 privately owned hangar facilities, St. Tammany Parish Mosquito Control, Skydive N’Awlins and the Experimental Aircraft Association,” said Airport Manager Sam Carver.  “We hope to continue to expand our offerings in the future.”
