The Coastal Conservation Association of Louisiana (CCA Louisiana) and 4-H Clubs have announced a partnership that will create dozens of fishing seminars for kids throughout Louisiana. In the program, CCA volunteers from 23 State-wide chapters will work with their local 4H Clubs to host the seminars. 4H Club members, ranging from 8-18 yrs of age will attend the events where they will learn about fishing techniques, fishing equipment, fishing regulations, different species of fish, conservation and stewardship, safety, fishing industry careers, and more. Upon completion of each seminar, participants will receive a certificate of merit and a voucher from CCA Louisiana for a complimentary one-year CCA New Tide Membership.
“We are extremely excited about the opportunity to partner with an incredible organization like 4-H,” said Gus Schram III, President of CCA Louisiana. “This partnership will allow us to teach Louisiana kids about fishing and the importance of conserving our State’s marine resources. 4-H has taken on fishing as part of their curriculum, and CCA volunteers have the know-how. It’s a perfect partnership.”
The concept originated in Lake Charles where members from the Lake Charles CCA Chapter worked with the Cameron Parish 4H clubs to hold youth seminars. The events have been so successful that is was only natural to offer the program statewide. In 2010, CCA expects to teach thousands of 4H members by holding 20 to 30 seminars.
CCA Louisiana is non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation of Louisiana’s marine resources. CCA Louisiana is a state chapter of the Coastal Conservation Association (CCA.) The stated purpose of CCA is to advise and educate the public on conservation of marine resources. The objective of CCA is to conserve, promote and enhance the present and future availability of these coastal resources for the benefit and enjoyment of the general public.
4-H empowers youth to reach their full potential, working and learning in partnership with caring adults. They envision a world in which youth and adults learn, grow and work together as catalysts for positive change.
