St. Tammany Parish Hospital honored National Volunteer Week with its annual Volunteer Awards Luncheon, April 29, at Benedicts Restaurant in Mandeville. Heath Allen, Northshore reporter for WDSU TV 6 and a fellow hospital volunteer, was keynote speaker. Allen talked about his experiences volunteering with Children’s Hospital in New Orleans.
The luncheon honored St Tammany Hospital Guild, Hospice, Meals at Home and independent volunteers for the dedicated service they so generously gave the hospital in 2009. In addition to their generous gift of time, the Guild also presented St. Tammany Hospital Foundation a check for $15,000 in 2009.
All totaled, 160 volunteers, from Guild members, Meals at Home drivers, Hospice volunteers and independent volunteers were recognized with service awards for hours volunteered in 2009. Three guild members were awarded special recognition for more than 500 hours of service, and three hospice volunteers were honored for 200 or more hours. Guild members who have served 1000 hours over their volunteer career earn a plaque on the Guild Honor Wall in the hospital lobby.
