(Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Sen. David Vitter today issued the following statement regarding President Obama’s naming of Solicitor General Elena Kagan as his nominee for the Supreme Court.
“Although most of the Gulf Coast’s attention is focused on the westward drift of the oil spill, Louisianians expect a nomination process that allows the Senate to study Ms. Kagan’s record and philosophy. The Constitution is clear that Supreme Court justices must interpret the law and not legislate from the bench. As her nomination progresses, I will be thoroughly reviewing her record and I look forward to her nomination hearing,” said Vitter.
