Keep Mandeville Beautiful (KMB) has been awarded two Healthy Community grants totaling $10,000 from Keep Louisiana Beautiful. The grant money will help KMB implement a curbside recycling educational campaign as well as produce a color 2012 calendar using artwork from anti-litter art contests in Mandeville schools.
Mandeville has been providing curbside recycling to its citizens for 20 years. During this period, there has never been a community-wide educational component to the program. This grant will pay for educational materials to raise the recycling participation rate from 35% to 65%. The materials will inform people about what can and cannot be recycled and why it is important to recycle.
The second grant will produce an annual calendar utilizing the wonderful artwork KMB receives from its annual anti-litter art contest. Twelve of the best pieces of artwork will be featured in a four-color calendar. The calendar will be sold at various retail outlets in Mandeville. It will also be available for companies to purchase in large quantities, co-brand with their logo and use as gifts to their clients. The revenue generated from the sale of the calendars will go to help KMB expand programs.
“We are extremely proud to have received these two grants from Keep Louisiana Beautiful. The grants provide KMB with much needed funds which are so critical to their successful efforts,” explains Donald Villere, Mayor of the City of Mandeville.
