St. Tammany Parish will open a shelter this evening for warming purposes, due to the hard freeze expected in the region for the next few nights.  The shelter will be at Thompson Road Baptist Church, located at 59008 Hwy 433 in Slidell.  American Red Cross workers will be managing the shelter for St. Tammany Parish.  It will open at 7:00 PM for any residents who need warming from the cold temperatures.  The shelter will be open as needed for the next few nights, based on temperature expectations.

In the event the Slidell shelter becomes filled, the secondary shelter will be on the west side of the Parish, at First Baptist Church of Mandeville, located at 1895 Hwy 190 in Mandeville.

This shelter is for warming purposes only; no food will be served.

“I encourage all citizens to be safe in these cold temperatures,” said Parish President Kevin Davis.  “We want to make sure that no one is without a warm location to spend the night, and we thank the Red Cross for their efforts in staffing and managing these shelters.”
